Vehicle Registering Services Brought Closer to Tweelaagte Rural Communities

Motorists in the Tweelaagte and other 32 surrounding villages will no longer have to travel long distances to access services of registering and renewing their vehicle discs.

This follows ajoint collaborationbetween the North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management and the Moses Kotane Local Municipality which led to the establishmentof the Tweelaagte Motor Vehicle Registration and Driving LicenseTesting Centre in the area. The first such centre in the area and within the rural communities.

For the past many years, motorists from Tweelaagte and the nearby villages have been travelling over 60 kilometers to access such services.
Speaking on behalf of MEC, Dr Mpho Motlhabane, Transport Regulations Chief Director, Mr Molefi Morule said that the establishment of this registering centre it is set to respond to the call of bringing registering services closer to the people.

“This centre will ensure the effective and efficient renewal of motor vehicle licenses as well as the registration of new vehicles. I am making a call upon you, as the communities around here to take a good care of the centre.” Said Morule.

“In many of our communities across the Province we have seen how communities resort to damaging private and public facilities such as this during protests and unrests. This is unacceptable. Do not take out your anger for service delivery on government delivered facilities. If you do so, you are disadvantaging yourselves and access government services will be hindered. It is for this reason on behalf of the Department I request communities around here to protect this facility against those who tend to rob us of government services.” Appealed Morule.

The establishment of the Tweelaagte motor vehicle registration and driving license testing centre came is a response to the increasing demand for an establishment of such services in the area. The vehicle population has surely increased and the department deemed it necessary to find a mechanism to ensure that the Province recoup the potential revenue lost to Limpopo due to lack of registering authority services around the boundaries of North West and Limpopo Provinces.

The authority will ensure effective and efficient renewal of motor vehicle licenses, registration of new vehicles, de-registration of stolen and recovered vehicles or permanently unfit for use, notifications to change in respect of vehicles particulars and re-registration of stolen and recovered vehicles

The over 300 community members who came to witness this opening expressed content and excitement at the fact that for the first time the distances they have been travelling to the nearest licence and registration centre has been shortened. The thanked the MEC and Mayor for taking them seriously and bringing this service to them even before they fought for it.
